I survived triple-header this past weekend (nightlife, group shoot, & engagement), but I wanted to post a shot from the wedding I’m currently working on. This is Wendy & Scott’s wedding party at the Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, CA.
More photos and a full post from the wedding soon!

Quick shot from a Hard Rock Hotel wedding in San Diego with Petco Park lighting up the night sky. I love the neon colors in the area and definitely need to shoot an engagement here!
Have a good weekend everyone!

Featured below is a set of Pedro Garcia wedding shoes, which will be worn by my bride-to-be
To be honest, I tried looking for the exact name online but couldn’t find it!

Shooting a wedding takes a LOT of effort, stamina, and the ability to focus on the details while maintaining a sense of urgency and artistry. After all was said and done from last night’s wedding, I took a few seconds to snap this nine-shot vertical panorama of 5th Avenue in downtown San Diego.

Here’s a short time lapse shot of downtown San Diego. This was shot around midnight on the first (preview) night of Comic-con, so there weren’t too many cars driving around to clog up the streets

The Photo of the Day belongs to Eliza looking fab on her wedding day. Despite the summer mugginess, it was an amazing first trip to New York that I’ll hopefully do again soon!

I never got into the habit of regularly posting images to my blog, but this is my first step in that direction
Here’s a simple shot of my D7000, shot with a freelensed 85mm f/1.4D.

The SoCal Photography Group‘s Ultimate Shootout 12 event was held this past weekend in Encinitas. The theme was summer fashion/glam, and I was finally able to get behind the camera and get my juices flowing. The weather was absolutely perfect for the day with a cool 70º day with scattered clouds. Quite a few of us enjoyed it too much and got sunburned, but it’s all good in the name of art & photography!
All of these images were edited on the fly, so you’ll see some inconsistency between shots as I tried to edit based on various magazine looks. Many thanks to the models, makeup artists, hairstylists, AND assistants who brought this all together. If any of these shots help you land a gig please let me know

I totally went for the 50′s edit on this one:

These were shot with my SB800 & beauty dish made out of an aluminum mixing bowl. Gotta love the results!

Here’s the full crew that made the shootout possible! This was definitely a shootout to remember, lots of good work being done! Thanks everyone, see you at US13!!

[edit] Here’s the swing set sequence edited for consistency.[/edit]

I host shootouts with the SoCal Photography Group at least once every 1-2 months, and I’m very grateful that they’ve grown in size and depth with each event. However, with the increased attendance comes more time needed to ensure the shootout runs smoothly. Not that it’s a bad thing, but I just don’t have time to shoot like I used to.
Fast forward two weeks after the event, and Jerel Fuerte & Eileen Sinsay of Fuerte Photography invites me out to the Maxim-style mini shootout they’re hosting. Not only do I need to update my glam portfolio, but I get to be a photographer again
But as luck would have it, I received my new Nikon D7000 and Merlin Steadicam the night before, so I literally felt like a kid with new toys.
Here are some of my shots, a mix of natural, one light, and two light setups. It was definitely good to get back into the mix with fellow artists, thanks again Jerel, Eileen, the MUAs, Hairstylists, photogs and of course the models!

And here’s the video I shot. This was literally my first time shooting video with D7000, and I didn’t realize I could use it in aperture priority until mid-morning, hence the overexposed and incorrect white balance
Alright, so I needed to build a corporate headshot and wedding photobooth portfolio. I called upon the SCPG crew to help out, but little did I know that a seemingly simple set up turned out to be a hilarious cardigan-fest. This magical cardigan pretty much took over EVERYTHING.

If you’d like to check out ALL the pics from the day, click here. BTW, I still got the portfolio shots needed, craziness and all
I’ve hosted 11 shootouts with the SoCal Photography Group, and I am simply amazed at how big this has become! Can you imagine 75 artists in four groups, all in one place doing some crazy fun photoshoots? If you asked me last year I’d say that’s impossible. But you know what? We did it and we are still continuing to grow!
I’ve taken a back seat from shooting to manage the events these days, but that won’t stop me from sneaking in some behind the scenes shots!

Not once did I visit the Hoover Dam during my eight year residency in Vegas, so what better time than when the massive memorial bridge was completed to do so! It was a relatively quick drive to the area, only about 35 minutes or so.
I haven’t shown love to my Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 lately, but this was a great opportunity to spend some quality time together
The area where all the hydroelectric magic happens!

Here’s the new memorial bridge they build recently. Its very high but has amazing views.
I told you!
The SoCal Photography Group’s Ultimate Shootout 10 was a success! With looming clouds posing a threat on Saturday, February 19th, I was faced with the decision of moving everyone to a different ship with a roof. But of course, none of the models or photographers were having that, so we stayed on the pirate ship, rain and all! Luckily for us it didn’t rain too much, so we took FULL advantage of the ship. You can read more about this venue from the SD Maritime Museum, be sure to drop by and check it out if you’re in town!
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look of the event. There were over 50 people in attendance for this event, all eager to get their pirate on! All these photos were taken with my now-favorite lens, the Nikon 24mm f/1.4G. I’ve had it for a few months now and have taken it to quite a few shooting environments, so stay tuned for a review and why you should put this on your lens list!
Oh, and if you’re interested in the Ultimate Shootouts (which by the way is THE most efficient way to build a portfolio, gain experience, and network with industry movers & shakers), come see what we’re all about on Facebook group page here! If you have any questions feel free to ask me!

Sorry for the lack of content.. I accidentally deleted my main database which took out my flash site AND blog!
I’ve been working feverishly to get things back in order, but I do have most of my portfolios updated. I’m going to skip the flash portion this time and combine everything in this format because it’s so much easier to move things around
If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line via the contact form on the left side of the site, or the email button on the right. Thanks for coming by and stay tuned for more posts!
Here’s a (roughly) 10-image composite of the HMS Surprise, an 18th Century replica ship where I will be hosting the SoCal Photography Group’s Ultimate Shootout 10 event this month:

2010 was an absolutely amazing year! I was fortunate to have the opportunities to meet many people who not only inspired, but also challenged me to push my creativity. Below you’ll find the images that received the most comments and likes on my facebook, plus a few personal favorites thrown in. This was one of the most productive years to date, and I hope I can keep this train movin’!
One of my main projects was leading the SoCal Photography Group, which was a fairly successful venture that I took on. It not only helped myself to develop my style, but it also helped the artist community that actively participates in it. We hosted a total of seven photoshoots with group sizes between 30 and 50 people throughout Southern California in 2010 which is truly a creative experience to be had
It’s hard to not be motivated or inspired when surrounded by many hard-working models, makeup artists, hairstylists, and other photographers. Thank you to everyone who made 2010 possible, here’s to an even better 2011!
